Former Spartan swim coach assigned to USA staff

Former Williamsville North boys and girls swimming coach Alan Erenstoft has been assigned to USA swimming and diving's coaching staff (Olympic training program) out of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Erenstoft relocated to Florida six years ago and has been involved with numerous clinics for the Olympic Development Program throughout the southern region.

Erenstoft was an All-American at Bowling Green State University in the mid-1960s and trained under famed Olympic swimming and diving coach James "Doc" Councilman and Hoby Billingsley while a graduate student assistant at Indiana University.

Erenstoft coached Whitefish Bay to the runner-up spot in the Wisconsin State High School Swimming Championships before returning to the Buffalo area in the early 1970s. He has also coached for the Empire State Games.

Besides his coaching duties, Erenstoft has been training for an English Channel swim next year.

Erenstoft is the son of Janet Erenstoft of Parkland, Fla., and the late Dr. Samuel Erenstoft.
