East improves to 5-0, first in division

The Williamsville East boys tennis team is leading ECIC Division II.

The Flames are 4-0 in league matches and 5-0 overall.

Junior Alex Mason is 5-0 playing first and second singles.

"He has only lost three games total and dominated his competition," said East coach Randy Ball.

Freshman Winston Lin is 3-1 at first and second singles.

"Winston has dominated in his wins," said Ball. "Winston's best match was his win at first singles against Boris Borovcanin from Nichols, 6-0, 6-3. Winston's only loss came from (Hamburg's) Matt Kane, who is one of the area's best singles players."

Eighth-grader Jonah Epstein is 4-0 at third singles and has not dropped a set.

Matt Kweller and Joe Buran are 3-1 at first doubles with their only loss coming in a tight match with Nichols.

"As a team I have been very proud of their progress and several players have stepped up and played well when the starters couldn't make a match," said Ball. "The highlight of the season was our 3-2 win over a very strong Nichols team that was solid from top to bottom."

East has also beaten Iroquois and Sweet Home, 5-0, and Hamburg and West Seneca East, 4-1.

East hosts Iroquois at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday and Hamburg at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
