St. Greg's 'A' softball wins home opener

The St. Greg's varsity "A" softball team earned a convincing 15-2 victory in five innings in the home opener against St. John's of Kenmore.

Cougars starting pitcher Hannah O'Sullivan struck out 12, scored three runs and had three hits. Siohban Dwyer pitched one inning and earned two strikeouts, scored three runs, and had four hits.

MaryKate Comer and Emily Ludwig (one run each, three hits), Claire Mangano (three runs, two hits), Melissa Gleico (two runs, hit), and Lara Macdonald (run, hit) contributed on offense.

Arianna Nasca, Lisa Harb, Alisa Vacanti, Maria Patnella, and Kelly Farrell combined to score nine runs.

St. Greg's 11, St. Dominic's of Niagara Falls 1 (5 innings)

Starting pitcher Hannah O'Sullivan struck out seven in four innings and had two hits. Closing pitcher Siohban Dwyer struck out two in the fifth and had two hits, including a triple hit deep to left center, and scored one run.

Emily Ludwig smacked two hits and scored a run. Kelly Farrell and Maria Patnella each had a hit and Patnella scored a run.

Lisa Harb, Mary Kate Comer, Lara MacDonald, Arianna Nasca, Claire Mangano, and Maria Giangreco scored a combined eight runs. Melisa Gleico and Alisa Vacanti (two hits each) played exceptional defense to limit St. Dominic's scoring opportunities.
