High school students win at Latin competition

Amherst High School Latin students won several awards at the Spring Junior Classical League competition, held at Pittsford Mendon High School near Rochester.

In written academic tests, junior David Greetham took third place among Latin III students in the test on Roman civilization and culture. On the same examination, senior Jerry Ren earned the third-place ribbon among Latin IV students.

Sophomore Devon Reynolds took first place among Latin II students in the mythology examination. Reynolds also won a second place ribbon among level II students on the Latin vocabulary examination.

In the Academic Quiz Bowl (Certamen in Latin), the Amherst Latin II team of senior YiYu Chen, and sophomores Ben Gadoua and Reynolds took third-place ribbons.

In the Latin IV Certamen, Amherst's Ren and Greetham won the first-place trophy, just ahead of Skaneateles and Pittsford Mendon high schools, who tied for second place.
