Amherst native recognized for philanthropic work Erin Borek, a graduate of Amherst High School, recently received the 2008 Spirit of Panhellenic Award at Johns Hopkins University. A senior, Borek is a member of Phi Mu sorority and was recognized for sustaining three organizations at Johns Hopkins. "If it were not for Erin, no JHU students would have been initiated into Order of Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, or Rho Lambda in 2007 or 2008," according to a press release from the college. "In addition to securing a JHU charter of the National Sorority Leadership Recognition Society, Rho Lambda, she also served as president of all three honoraries." She also coordinated the new member application process, chaired the selection committees and organized the initiation ceremonies for all three organizations. Borek has been active in Rho Lambda's service projects, the Priceless Gown Project, which collects and distributes prom dresses for needy Baltimore City school students, and the Baltimore March of Dimes. Majoring in physics and minoring in mathematics, she will participate in the Teach for America program in New Orleans after graduation. |
