Amherst boys lax loses in double OT The Amherst Central boys lacrosse team fell to 4-3 overall with a 10-9 double-overtime loss to Section V's Webster-Schroeder on Saturday at Dimp Wagner Field. Brent Doerflein scored twice to give Amherst a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. The Tigers went up 5-2 late in the second half when Webster Schroeder's Pete Noto scored with seven seconds remaining. The Tigers had leads of 6-3 and 8-4 in the third quarter cut down to 8-6 by the end of the quarter. Casey Rich (two goals, two assists) scored from Doerflein to give Amherst a 9-6 advantage, but Schroeder scored the last three goals in regulation to send the game into overtime. Chris Topping tied the game with 1:21 left in regulation. Tota recorded the game-winning goal 16 seconds into double overtime. Doerflein led Amherst with two goals and four assists. Dan Cooper scored four goals. Rich had two goals and two assists. Despite winning the ground ball battle, 36-21, Amherst only won 35 percent (8 of 23) of its faceoff opportunities and was outshot, 32-19. Amherst hosts Grand Island at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23. |
