Sweet Home splits games at NT tourney

It was a roller coaster weekend for the Sweet Home softball team.

The Lady Panthers edged Grand Island, 2-1, and lost to Fredonia, 6-0, at the 25th North Tonawanda Varsity Invitational Softball Tournament on Saturday at the Edward Belbas Fields in North Tonawanda.

Jesse Lewandowski hit the game-winning run against Grand Island in the top of the seventh inning with a triple, scoring Carol Skoney. Lewandowski finished the game 2 for 3.

Skoney hit 1 for 2 and pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.

Rachel Cimerman hit the tying RBI in the top of the sixth with a double that scored Natalie Vazquez.

Against Grand Island, Jessica Forti hit 2 for 3, Jillian Reeser went 1 for 3 with a double and recorded nine putouts and Natalie Vazquez recorded five assists on defense.

Sweet Home hosted Williamsville South on Tuesday but the result was unavailable before The Bee went to press. They host Iroquois at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 and travel to Lake Shore at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
