Re-Tree recognized by Arbor Day Foundation

Re-Tree Western New York has been named a recipient of the Arbor Day Foundation's Project Award.

The organization was founded following the October 2006 snowstorm that damaged 55,000 trees in WNY to date. The economic cost has exceeded $16 million, and the recovery efforts continue.

Paul Maurer and David Colligan started the process shortly after the storm, and the organization grew into a large community effort, from professional arborists to concerned citizens.

The vision is to have 30,000 trees planted by 2012 by volunteers with funding from the community.

In spring 2007, 1,720 trees were planted by volunteers during 40 planting events attended by 350 people.

Both membership and fundraising efforts have grown since its inception, bringing the community together for a joint effort - to Re-Tree WNY.
