South grad earns Eagle Scout rank with completed project

Only 2 percent of Boy Scouts attain the organization's highest rank of Eagle Scout.

To attain the rank, a Boy Scout must complete at least 21 merit badges and organize a service project that benefits his church, community or school. Recently, five Boy Scouts in Troop 554 from St. Barnabas Parish in Depew reached the Eagle rank.

Shawn Mooney, a graduate of Williamsville South High School, organized the cleaning up and preparing of the baseball diamonds for McCarthy Baseball League as his service project.

He shared the Eagle Court of Honor with fellow troop members Chris Crawford, Thomas Michalewski, Anthony Moreno and Nicholas Spengler.

These Boy Scouts have all participated in other community service projects.
