Red Hat Society celebrates 10th birthday with banquet The Red Hat Society in Buffalo will celebrate its 10th birthday on Friday, April 25, at Banchetti's Restaurant, 550 N. French Road, Amherst. Jacque Waggoner, chief executive officer of Hunter's Hope Foundation, will be the guest speaker at the event. The Birthday Bash luncheon, hosted by the Antique Red Hatters of Amherst and the Lockport Canal Cuties, welcomes women in the community to join them for a time of celebration. The cost is $25 per person; doors open at 11 a.m. The mission of the Red Hat Society is to promote fun and friendship among women over the age of 50. It began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and grace. Underneath the frivolity, they share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes them next. Waggoner will provide the society with the history, mission and future goals of the foundation that was established in 1997 by her son-in-law, NFLPro Hall of Fame and former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly, and her daughter, Jill Kelly, after their infant son, Hunter, was diagnosed with Krabbe leukodystrophy, an inherited, fatal, nervous system disease. The Red Hat Society's celebration will benefit the Hunter's Hope Foundation. For information, call 691-9492. |
