Lady Spartans also post victories at NT tournament
      Williamsville North opened its 2008 softball season in impressive fashion, defeating Orchard Park, 4-2, on April 9 and opening their home season by defeating Frontier, 10-6, on Thursday, April 10. Frontier is the defending Section VI and Far West Regional champion.

      Williamsville South graduate and Notre Dame University junior Alyissa Hasan won the California Invitational Heptathlon on April 17 at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., with an NCAA automatic qualifying and school-record 5,509 points, a personal record by 773 points.

      It was a roller coaster weekend for the Sweet Home softball team. The Lady Panthers edged Grand Island, 2-1, and lost to Fredonia, 6-0, at the 25th North Tonawanda Varsity Invitational Softball Tournament on Saturday at the Edward Belbas Fields in North Tonawanda.

Challenge not kind to North
      Williamsville North won the Robert E. Rich Memorial Baseball Classic in 2007 but made a quiet exit this year. The Spartans lost to St. Joe's, 10-2, in five innings in a first round game on Saturday at Dunn Tire Park. "We didn't play well," said North coach Jerry Scarcella.

      Williamsville North's girls outdoor track team did not win any events at the WNY Officials Relays on Saturday at Erie Community College South Campus' Jim Ball Stadium but did set several school records. New school records fell in the varsity medley relay, distance medley relay and triathlon.

      Under new coach Tricia Townsell, the Sacred Heart girls tennis team looks towards continuing its success in the Monsignor Martin Association. The Sharks finished 10-1 last year and have traditionally been one of the better teams in the MMA.
