Amherst's Timlin thrilled with St. Bonaventure

Amherst Central senior Daisy Timlin took the advice of a former teammate to check out St. Bonaventure University's lacrosse program, and she's glad she did.

Timlin signed a National Letter of Intent with Division I St. Bonaventure last Thursday at Amherst High School.

"Jodi Battaglia (who is playing for the University at Albany) told me about the St. Bonaventure team," said Timlin. "It was one of the later schools that I looked at but when I saw the school and team, it became my first choice."

Timlin was told by Lady Bonnies coach Christy Malone that she can make an immediate impact.

If Timlin plays anywhere near how she has performed for Amherst, St. Bonaventure is a gaining a great player and leader. Timlin is a four-year varsity player in the midfield with Amherst. As a junior Timlin had 42 goals, 15 assists, 27 draw controls and 23 ground balls and was named to the All-Western New York first team. She's currently a co-captain for the Lady Tigers.

"Daisy is a hard working committed student athlete," said Amherst coach Janet Battaglia. "She has been a four-year varsity starter for our team and a co-captain this year. Daisy has worked hard in the offseason to improve her game, from attending clinics and camps, playing in tournaments with her school team and has played club lacrosse which has had her playing in tournaments all around the northeast United States."

Coach Battaglia thinks Bonaventure and Timlin appear to be a good fit.

"Bonaventure is under a first-year coach who has been actively recruiting," she said. "I think it is always nice to be one of the coach's first-year recruits. It gives everyone a chance to grow together. Bona plays a very competitive schedule and although their record doesn't reflect it (3-9, 1-4), it has competed with many tops teams to a one-goal differential. The major differences Daisy will see in the college game will be the speed and strength needed to compete. I believe she has it in her to make the adjustment. She is coachable and has the desire to accomplish at the next level."

Timlin is going to St. Bonaventure on a partial academic and athletic scholarship. She also likes the school's education program.

Timlin wants to major in elementary education with the hopes of one day teaching first or second grade.
