Hamburg snaps South softball's 59-game league unbeaten streak The Williamsville South softball team's 59-game win streak is over. The Lady Billies held a 1-0 lead over Hamburg in the bottom of the seventh inning at Hamburg last Wednesday and lost 2-1. South scored in the third inning when K.K. Schaus, who led off with a triple, was driven home by a Sam Strapason RBI single. Hamburg scored on two base hits, several fielder's choices and a South error, to win the game. The Lady Billies had numerous scoring chances in the game but left seven runners stranded. Schaus added two singles. Emma Markley smacked a singled in the fourth. On the defensive side, junior left fielder Stephanie Shahin had an outstanding game with four putouts. Freshman pitcher Kyle Plimpton took a two-hitter into the seventh and finished with four hits, eight strikeouts and no walks. South's 59-game win streak in league play dated back to 2003. OP ended its season with five runs in the fifth. South scored twice in the fifth on hits by Schaus and Devon Powers. Strapason recorded South's other hit. Plimpton stuck out seven. South (0-2, 0-1) plays O'Hara at 10:30 a.m. and Niagara-Wheatfield at the Edward Belbas Fields on Saturday as part of the 25th North Tonawanda Varsity Invitational Softball Tournament. The Lady Billies return to league action against Iroquois at home on Monday, April 21 and close out the week with road games at Sweet Home and West Seneca East on Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23, respectively.
