Starting positions up for grabs at Amherst
by PATRICK J. NAGY Reporter

The competition is so tight on the Amherst Central boys tennis team that coach Eric Damiani could only list three names for the preview.

"It's so competitive," said Damiani. "They've been making some hard decisions for me at first and second doubles."

So far, the only player Damiani said will be playing a doubles position is junior David Greetham.

Junior William O'Neil-White and senior captain Andrew Taube should play at singles but at what position in the lineup is still unknown. Both are returning starters. O'Neil-White was at singles and Taube played doubles last year.

Coach Damiani is hoping that the younger players and the four other seniors on the team can make a difference somewhere in the lineup.

Amherst is the reigning ECIC Division III champion but because of student enrollment, moved down to ECIC II. The Tigers won its first league match over Depew, 4-1, on April 7 at home. Amherst opened the season with a 3-2 non-league loss on April 3 at Williamsville North.

The Tigers return to action when they host Maryvale at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23.
