East baseball loses opener

The Williamsville East baseball team gave Orchard Park all they could handle but fell 5-2 on April 8 at Orchard Park.

The score was tied at 2-2 in the fourth when OP scored two runs on three walks, a hit batter and an error, to take the lead for good. The Quakers also plated an insurance run in the sixth.

East outhit OP, 5-2. Chris Schiumo led the Flames' offense with two hits and played stellar defense, said East coach Jerry Gasz.

Josh DiMarco, Andrew Steel and Nick Weigel were the other East players to record a hit.

It was the first time East had played on a diamond all season, including practice.

The two teams split their series last year.

East (0-1) will be a busy team when they get back from spring recess.

They play road games at Sweet Home, West Seneca East, and Lake Shore, Monday, April 21 through Wednesday, April 23, and host West Seneca West and Hamburg on Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25.
