Fire U10 travel soccer wins thriller

The Amherst Fire U10 travel soccer team burned the Clarence Dolphins, 6-5, in a sudden-death shootout to advance to the finals.

Rachel dePerio scored first for the Fire. Cara Manzella (Lexi Skibitsky) shot wide to put the Fire in the lead.

Sarah Scolnick tied the game with 10 seconds left in regulation off a high ball from Samantha Strapason.

Goalies Emma Poveromo and Shannon Gilbert split duties and made fantastic saves.

In the shootout, Alea Manzella went in goal, and shooters dePerio, Alexa Bradley and Gilbert kept Amherst's chance of winning alive as all scored. Manzella scored the game-winning goal.
