Sports briefs Amherst resident Mike Pizzuto was named Geneseo State College's men's student-athlete of the week for April 7-13. A senior business administration major, Pizzuto scored a career high nine points on three goals and six assists in the 16-9 win at Brockport on Wednesday and added five helpers in the 15-3 victory at Morrisville on Saturday. Amherst resident Liz Reid went 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs in the Hamilton College softball team's 11-7 loss to Williams College. Amherst Central graduates Rosalie Herberger and Robert Tober and Sacred Heart Academy graduate Melissa Radder earned Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference academic all-conference honors. All three attend Hilbert College. Amherst resident James Piazza allowed one earned run and struck out three over three innings to record the win on the mound as the University at Buffalo baseball team beat Niagara University, 10-6, on April 9. The third annual Olmsted Open 18-hole golf tournament will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Delaware Park Meadows Golf Course, 84 Parkside Ave. and Delaware Park Ring Road, Buffalo. The tournament will have a shotgun start and be in a scramble format. The cost is $90 per golfer. Williamsville North graduate and Williamsville resident Katie Lyons scored twice to help the Buffalo State College women's lacrosse team win its first-ever game in 13 attempts against Geneseo State College, 20-12, on April 8. |
