Georgia wins high school girls crown Georgia avenged its only two losses all year by defeating LSU, 31-16, in the semifinals and Clemson, 28-13, in the finals, to win the Amherst Girls Basketball high school girls' championship. Georgia's defense earned them two victories. Georgia led LSU, 15-12, at halftime and held them to four points in the second half. Georgia led Clemson, 14-11, at halftime, and held Clemson to two points. Kelsey Buran, who led Georgia all year in steals and rebounds, led the defensive effort in the playoffs. Laura Lonski led the offense against LSU with seven points. Kristy Luce and Michelle Lonski each added five points. In the championship game, Lisa Infanti had a great all-around game and led the team with eight points. Laura Lonski chipped in seven points and Kristen Haley and Kristy Luce had four points each. Defensively, Kelly Kubala blocked four shots and April Carruba made three steals. |
