Sports brief Sweet Home senior Katie Gambles signed a Letter of Intent and earned a full scholarship in February to run cross country at the University of North Alabama this coming fall. Gambles was team MVP for Sweet Home last fall. She will study criminal justice in college. The Amherst Women's Senior Golf League will tee off between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. on Friday, May 22, at Oakwood Golf Course, 3575 Tonawanda Creek Road. The league is currently accepting new members. Interested golfers should contact Jackie at 835-5712 or Pat at 635-0556. Registration for the Buffalo Wings Lacrosse Club's 2008 season is now open. The club is for middle and high school girl lacrosse players through the graduating class of 2009. Practices begin in May. Evan Bylewski, a 2005 graduate of Amherst High School, placed first on pommel horse for the University at Buffalo gymnastics team at an intercollegiate meet on March 29 at Flips Gymnastics. Participants included Virginia Tech, University of Vermont, Sacred Heart College and Cornell University. UB placed second in all-around. Bylewski is a junior at UB and is the son of Christine Bylewski and Robert Carnevale of Snyder. Williamsville North graduate and Williamsville resident Katie Lyons posted a goal and assist to help the Buffalo State College women's lacrosse team to a 21-10 rout over Oneonta State College on Friday at Coyer Field. Sacred Heart Academy graduate and Cheektowaga resident Carrie Sisson struck out five batters and allowed only two runs over four innings to help the Hilbert College softball team to an 18-6 win over Wells College last Thursday. Sisson is a sophomore at Hilbert. Williamsville North graduate and East Amherst resident Lauren O'Brien singled in the winning run in game Oone and scored the game-tying run in game two of the St. John Fisher College softball team's comeback wins over Utica College on Sunday. Fisher won game one, 3-2, and game two, 4-2. |
