William H. Lamale, retired journalist William Hughes Lamale, 88, of Williamsville, died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Born in Tarkio, Mo., Mr. Lamale grew up in Ada, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1942 and was a member of Phi Mu Delta fraternity and of the the Northern Review staff. Mr. Lamale was inducted into the Army Air Forces in 1942, becoming a public relations specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He met his wife Dorothy while stationed in New Haven, Conn. When he was reassigned to Denver, Mr. Lamale sent his wife an engagement ring by mail, and they were married in 1945. He worked from 1946 to 1958 as a journalist for the Bridgeport, Conn., daily paper. In 1959, he became a features writer at the Buffalo Courier Express, where he worked until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Lamale was also a columnist for the paper. He traveled around Western New York looking for stories and wrote 800 words per day. He was also a devoted volunteer forester for the New York Forest Owners Association. Mr. Lamale is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughter Denise Lepley of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister Joyce Ford of Mansfield, Ohio; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 781 Maple Road. |
