North seniors take charge in their community
by KATE FASSL AND COLIN KNOER

Michele Bauman
Williamsville North Student Council proudly recognizes the outstanding achievements of two members of its senior class each month. Students featured in this column are selected by faculty recommendation. The Senior Spartan Spots for the month of April are Michele Bauman and Vijay Singh.

Bauman, daughter of Michele and Bernie Bauman of Williamsville, is the captain and a scholar-athlete for both the indoor and outdoor track teams at North. Aside from excelling in track, she also was part of North's cheerleading squad, becoming captain in her sophomore year. Bauman is an active member in several clubs at school, including the Steering Committee, Challenge Club, Student Council and both Math and National Honor Societies. Outside school, she is a very active member of the community, volunteering for the Amherst YES Program, Camp Good Days and Special Times, the Special Olympics, Maple West Elementary School, and Women and Children's Hospital, helping out in the oncology unit.

After graduation, Bauman hopes to attend the University at Buffalo and possibly major in medicine.

Vijay Singh
Singh, son of Kylie Keshav and Keshav Singh of Williamsville, is a member of the Science Olympiad team, Math Honor Society, and National Honor Society. He ran both indoor and outdoor track for North for two years, and he was ranked third in the class of 2008. Singh volunteers for the Amherst YES Program, Habitat for Humanity, the Food Bank of Western New York and the Sacred Heart Home. His hobbies include building, painting and testing models, and politics.

After graduation, Singh plans to attend the University at Buffalo and major in chemical and biological engineering and work on scientific research in the summer of 2008.
