Community of Grace to host financial series

Community of Grace Fellowship will be hosting Financial Peace University, a 13-week program to help families positively change their financial future.

FPU teaches families and individuals how to handle money through commonsense principles and small-group accountability.

A free preview night will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13, for those interested in the program. The classes will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the church, 1407 North Forest Road Williamsville. The cost of the series is $100.

After each lesson, the group members will meet to plan budgets, discuss successes and temptations and support each other in an effort to beat debt and build wealth. Topics include saving for emergencies, buying big bargains, understanding investments and real estate mortgages.

As they work on a "total money makeover," the average family pays off $5,300 in debt and saves $2,700 in the first 91 days after beginning FPU and is completely out of debt, except for a mortgage, in 18 to 24 months.

"We've actually relieved ourselves of over $50,000 worth of debt in two years just from using these principles," said Russ Lee, former FPU participant.

The video lessons are taught by Dave Ramsey. By 26, Ramsey had established a $4 million dollar real estate portfolio, only to lose it by age 30. He has since rebuilt his financial life and now devotes himself to helping people understand the forces behind their financial distress and how to set things right - financially, emotionally and spiritually.
