• MARCUS MILLER - Two-time Grammy Award-winning jazz musician Marcus Miller will make an appearance for a meet-and-greet with fans at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Barnes & Noble at 4401 Transit Road, Clarence. Miller will sign his latest CD, "Marcus," as well as other musical releases.

• HIGH SCHOOL CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION - CongressmanBrianHiggins invites students from Erie County high schools to participate in "An Artistic Discovery," the annual congressional art competition initiated by Congress in 1982. One piece from each congressional district will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Students must submit original artwork by 5 p.m. Friday, May 2. Art can be delivered to Congressman Higgins' Buffalo office at 726 Larkin St., Suite 601, Buffalo, or the Jamestown office at 2 E. Second St., Suite 300. All submissions will be on public display in the first floor lobby at the Larkin at Exchange Building at 726 Exchange St., Buffalo, May 12-17. On May 17, Congressman Higgins will host a ceremony and reception for teachers, students and their families where the top winners will be announced. Selection of the winning pieces will be made by local leaders in the art community. Pieces must be no larger than 30 inches by 30 inches to the outside dimensions of the frame and no more than 4 inches in depth. • ELMWOOD ART FESTIVAL SEEKS ART ISTS - The ninth annual Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts is seeking artists and craftspeople to apply to its juried 2008 Artist's Market. • ELMWOOD ART FESTIVAL SEEKS P ERFORMERS - The ninth annual Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts is seeking performers in dance, music, theater and more to fill its four stages. • BUFFALO MURAL ARTS PROGRAM - The BMA program seeks proposals for life-sized images along Broadway. The themes of the murals should be uniquely Buffalo. • WANTED: TASTE OF BUFFALO P ERFORMERS - The Taste of Buffalo ( July 12 and 13) is now accepting submissions from musicians of all types. Band and other performers playing everything from blues and country to jazz and rock and roll can submit their information for possible inclusion in the festival. • POLISH SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE - The Polish Arts Scholarship Foundation is accepting applications for $1,000 scholarships. Applicants must be of Polish background, residents of New York, enrolled at the junior level or above in an accredited university or college and major in the visual or performing arts. • JAZZ UP BUFFALO FUNDRAISER - The Buffalo Mural Arts Program is holding a fundraiser to Jazz Up Buffalo, particularly the Broadway-Fillmore District. The public can help raise money for supplies and artists to begin the mural project, sponsored by Mike Kuzma and Aniela Baj of Councilmember David Franczyk's office. The fundraiser will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at the Tudor Lounge, 335 Franklin St., Buffalo. The event will feature live music, drink specials and a ticket auction. • NIAGARA HISTORIC TRAIL - The North Tonawanda History Museum has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Niagara County for the publication of a guidebook on the Niagara Historic Trail to be used as a guide for visitors to the county, and as an educational publication for residents and students. A 2,500 grant has also been awarded for the project by the New York Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
