Newman to seek State Senate seat

Newman
Local businessman Bob Newman has announced his intention to seek the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties' endorsements to run for the New York State Senate 61st district seat.

Current State Sen. Mary Lou Rath has announced that she will not be seeking re-election.

"I don't see progress being made on the statewide level to address the overbearing cost of state government, excessive personal tax rates, unaccountable authorities and excessive regulations" says Newman. "We need leadership that has financial management experience and understands the importance of good jobs but also understands how to efficiently deliver basic governmental services."

He plans on finalizing his committee leadership and getting key volunteers in place over the next few weeks.

Newman spent 20 years managing the NOCO Express Shop chain. As president, he grew the business into a regional convenience store chain of more than 70 stores. He still operates several small businesses. He also has an extensive background in community service and has received numerous awards for his work.

Newman also managed the merger of the business associations in Niagara County while advocating for a better economic climate.

"As someone who has struggled with Albany's burdensome regulations and excessive taxes I know we need someone not afraid to advocate for change. I have firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing us in the upstate region." said Newman.

Newman resides in Tonawanda and has two sons attending college and one in public high school. He has been a resident and businessman in the area for his entire life.

"I think the race for county executive last November clearly showed that voters want qualified candidates and will vote for them not the party" said Newman. "The bar has been raised in terms of the quality of people we expect to hold office."
