Meeting set to discuss Catholic Heart Workcamp

St. Gregory the Great has the privilege of hosting one of the 38 sites hosting this year's Catholic Heart Workcamp. It is also the only New York State site.

CHWC is a national program for teens designed to combine community service with spiritual development.

The camp will be held from Aug. 3-9 on the grounds of St. Greg's. CHWC is open to students currently in seventh through 12th grade and combines service to others with a spiritual enrichment through the use of high-energy music, dance, food and friendship.

During the week, the teens spend time on service projects which may include painting, home repairs, yard work or working at daycare centers, food banks or homeless shelters.

Campers sleep in the classrooms at the school, go to different sites around the city and come back for the evening program at the Ministry Center.

Last year, 19 teens and three adults from St. Gregory's parish traveled to Greenburg, Pa. to attend the Catholic Heart Workcamp.

The Catholic Heart Workcamp is in September. The cost of the camp is $325 and includes meals, lodging and entertainment for the six-day session.

There will be an informational meeting held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 in the gathering room, 100 St. Gregory Court, at Maple Road. For information contact Jim Havens at awesomeyouth@gmail.com or visit www.heartworkcamp.com.
