Anthone, Pizzuto named student-athletes of week

The 200-yard freestyle relay team, including Jennifer Anthone of Williamsville East, and men's lacrosse player Mike Pizzuto of Amherst, were named as Geneseo State College's student-athletes of the week for March 10-16.

Anthone helped the team earn first-team All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving championships by placing sixth in a time of 1:36.75.

In the morning preliminaries, the quartet set a school and SUNYAC record with a fifth-place time of 1:36.45.

Pizzuto, a senior business administration major, scored the tying goal with 2:33 remaining and picked up his fifth assist of the contest on the game-winning goal with six ticks left in the 13-12 win over Nazareth and led the Knights to a 18-9 win over Keuka with three goals and two assists.
