Wrestling academy to open in Depew

Football, basketball, hockey, baseball, golf ... all of these sports have academies specifically created for them, so why not another sport?

Former East Aurora varsity coach Keith Maute is doing his part to add wrestling to the mix.

The Cobra Wrestling Academy will hold its grand opening at 6 p.m. Monday, March 31, next to the Department of Motor Vehicles office in the Dick/George Urban Plaza in Depew. An open registration will be held that night to show off the new 7,000-square-foot facility.

Children ages six and up can participate in the academy - which will be open seven days a week, year-round - and will be placed in groups based on their age and skill level. There will be three sessions held each day, with variations on the wrestling styles and age groups.

The academy will have two full-size wrestling mats as well as a fitness center. It will also have an on-site strength and conditioning coach who will also have programs for the kids to participate in. Parents can even join and work out while their kids are wrestling.

The coaching staff for the academy will include Ron Lorenz (Lancaster varsity coach), Chris Nadeau (former Sweet Home varsity coach), Derek Ostrowski (Lancaster varsity coach), Brandon Ostrowski (East Aurora varsity coach) and Maute (East Aurora varsity assistant coach). There will also be numerous guest clinicians over the course of the year.

The pricing will be broken down by the length of time a child signs up to participate in the academy. Possible lengths of time include one month, three months, six months or a year.

For more information, including the exact price breakdown, attend the open house or contact Maute at 715-1775.
