Hasan breaks Notre Dame record, earns All-American honors

Alyissa Hasan
Williamsville South graduate and Williamsville resident Alyissa Hasan broke Notre Dame University's school record in the pentathlon and became Notre Dame's first-ever multievent All-American at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 15 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

Hasan piled up 4,069 points, breaking her old school mark of 3,939 points that she set earlier this year at the Akron Open.

She ended up ninth at the NCAA meet and was one of the top eight U.S.-born finishers in the competition, securing her first career All-America certificate.

Hasan tied for third in the high jump (5-08.75) and placed seventh in the shot put (39-6) and long jump (19-01.25), eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.68), and 13th in the 800-meter run (2:28.16).

Hasan owns the high school New York State record in the outdoor pentathlon and won state pentathlon championships her junior and senior seasons at South. She is a 15-time high school All-American at all levels in the long jump, triple jump, 100-meter hurdles, pentathlon, heptathlon and shot put.

Hasan is pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology and is leaning toward going for a master's degree in clinical psychology.
