Amherst lady keglers end season with win Although having only a 2-12 record, the Amherst Central girls bowling team ended the season by beating Cheektowaga, 5-2, at Airport Lanes. Graduating senior captain and anchor of the "A" team Carolyn Trabert had high game (193) and series (518) while sophomore "B" team anchor Kailey Diemkaye was high with a 162, 457 series. There are four graduating seniors, three of whom are starters - Kristin Ortman, Carolyn Trabert and Carol Powell. Ortman led off the "A" team and was one of two bowlers who were most improved from 2006-07. Trabert had high average (167) and anchored the "A" team. Carol Powell led off the "B" team. Senior Mallorie Saleh, although spending most of the last couple of seasons on the "C" team, filled in on the "B" team. Amherst's other win was 6-1 over Springville. The Lady Tigers did come close to a couple of school records, recording an "A" team high game of 701 (school record, 708) and "A" team high series of 1955 (school record, 1958). Kristin Ortman and first-year bowler freshman Jessica Banning won the team's in-house doubles tournament. Junior Carolyn Sobol was the most improved bowler with a 136 average, up 29 pins from last year. Senior Kristin Ortman was the second most improved with a 135 average, up 25 pins from last year. The Coach's Award winners were Saleh and Powell. Showing great improvement and hopefully returning next year are Sobol, Diemkaye, Banning, Lauren Williams, Katie Fowler, Brianna Brooks, Lauren Kapus, and Gabriella Borzillieri. |
