Each month, the Williamsville North Student Council chooses two exceptional members of the senior class to be recognized in the Spartan Spot. The students chosen for March were Casey Matthews and Michael Burns.
Matthews, daughter of Greg and Julie Matthews of Getzville, holds many of North's all-time swimming and diving records. She has been on the team for the past six years and was girls captain this year. Matthews also was on girls varsity track and field her freshman and sophomore years.
Along with her athletic achievements, Matthews is a member of both National Honor Society and Math Honor Society. Outside of school, she is a member of the Autistic Fibrosis Foundation and of Amherst Y.E.S.
After graduation, Matthews plans to attend Purdue University. She has not yet chosen her major.
Burns, son of Michael and Barbara Burns of East Amherst, also swam for North for the past four years, and was boys co-captain this year. He has played volleyball and run track for North and is a six-time Scholar Athlete.
