March 29, 1883

Teachers in the Town of Amherst will undoubtedly be pleased that Supervisor John B. Fiegel will be at Gotwalt's store this week Saturday for the purpose of paying salaries.

Yesterday Mr. Chas. Stull met with an accident which might have resulted seriously. He was drilling out an old blast at the Youngs quarries, when it exploded, blowing several small stones into his face and severely bruising the right hand.

The school exhibition which was held at Getzville recently, Dr. D.S. Krull, teacher, was a decided success. The house was crowded, and the appreciative audience much enjoyed the songs, recitations, etc.

Mr. F. R. Voss has rented Mrs. Richardson's house on Cayuga Street for one year.

If you want a nice rig, look at H. M. Long's fine stock of top buggies and open wagons.

March 26, 1908

The Erie County Board of Supervisors has voted to sell 100 acres of the almshouse property on Main Street at Bailey Avenue for $50,000 to the University of Buffalo, as a site for a university.

William Skinner has left the employ of the Getzville Creamery Co., and his place has been filled by Robert Krathwohl.

March 30, 1933

The George F. Lamm Post has added further to the facilities of its delightful home on Wehrle Drive by the installation of a rifle range.

Williamsville will be the most attractive place to do trading during the week of April 29. A group of business and professional men of the village have launched a movement for spectacular sales during that period.

Allan C. Christman announces the opening of an office for the practicing of law at 1018 Prudential Building, Buffalo.

50 Years Ago

March 27, 1958 Officials are considering holding a permissive referendum on a new town hall, two new library buildings and the recreation program at one time, avoiding the expense of two special votes.

Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Hudecki and Dr. and Mrs. Daniel McCue were in the southern states the past week, attending a dental conference.

The congregation of the Williamsville Methodist Church had an unusual and rewarding experience at last Sunday morning's service when they heard an 18-year-old boy deliver the sermon for his ill father. The boy is Christopher Lucas, son of the Rev. Mr. Marshal P. Lucas, pastor.

March 23, 1983

Amherst Town Supervisor Jack Sharpe last night delivered the annual State of the Town message at the Amherst Chamber of Commerce "Our Town" dinner at the Marriott Inn. Sharpe cited a lack of solutions created by federal cutbacks. He also took a shot at Gov. Mario Cuomo, calling his budget proposal, "possibly the worst in the history of New York State."

Friday will be "John Schuck Day" in Amherst when the 1957 graduate of Amherst Central High School who went on to fame and fortune in Hollywood and on Broadway, comes home for a special weekend. He will be a celebrity chef at the March of Dimes Silver Screen Gourmet Gala on March 26 at the Buffalo Hilton.

Richard F. Rebadow, 60, general manager of Greater Buffalo International Airport, died Friday, March 18, 1983.
