Scott Norcutt of East Amherst, serving with the New York Army National Guard Element Joint Force Headquarters, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Jonathan Medina of Williamsville, serving with the Troop A 2-101 Cavalry of the New York Army National Guard, has been promoted to the rank of specialist.

Randall Walters, of Amherst, serving with Detachment 1 Headquarters and Headquarters Company 42D Special Troops Battalion of the New York Army National Guard has been promoted to the rank of private.

Army 1st Lt. Bryan Shaw, son of Scott Shaw of Williamsville and Beverly Shamblin of Lancaster, has returned to Alaska after being deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 4th Brigade Combat Team Airborne 25th Infantry Division at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska. Shaw has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal and the Combat Action Badge. He is a 2001 graduate of Depew High School and a 2005 graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology.
