Mistakes made war unforgivable Recently we marked the fifth year since America invaded and occupied Iraq. I am outraged that my country finds itself in the position that it is in at home and abroad because of this misguided war. We Americans should never forgive our president and his administration for their dismal failure to read the clues leading up to Sept. 11. Falsely blaming Iraq for Sept. 11 and developing a cache of weapons of mass destruction proved to be a cruel hoax played on all Americans, and it has led our country down the wrong road in combating international terrorism. By not forgiving maybe we will deter future leaders and their administrations from being so shortsighted and cavalier with our Constitution and we Americans they take an oath to defend and protect. Sadly, we should have learned this lesson after Vietnam, but we did not.
There is no excuse, given the technological, intellectual and financial resources at the collective disposal of our government that enough members of Congress, the president with his administration, the CIA, the Defense Department, the Pentagon and the FBI could not have better assessed the situation and avoided the disastrous course of action taken by our government to invade Iraq. |
