Town Centre betters Amherst

I was pleasantly surprised to learn of Benderson Development's new plan to incorporate a beautiful, 4.5-acre public park area to the company's proposed Amherst Town Centre slated for the former Buffalo Shooting Club on Maple Road. I commend the developer for providing all Amherst residents a unique area to recreate, shop and grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee in a unique village-type setting.

There has been some opposition in the immediate area of the project, which is very difficult to understand, especially with this most recent addition to the plan. In addition, Benderson has made many concessions that have been requested by the community and Town Board members.

Most Amherst residents I have spoken with are in favor of this project, which will be a great asset to our town and will provide much needed jobs and tax revenues. Those fighting to keep this highly visible, contaminated eyesore in its current state are only hurting the entire community. It would be a shame to lose out on this project because of a few people who disapprove. I hope our Town Board members are listening to the majority of taxpayers who welcome the Amherst Town Centre.
