Pee Wee Stars wins title in overtime

The Amherst Pee Wee Stars defeated the Blue Sabres, 2-1, on Super Sunday to win the Pee Wee title.

Nick Schiappa (Ryan Rego) buried the winner with less than 72 seconds left in overtime. Conor Mulvey scored the first Stars' goal with a slap shot in the first period.

The Blue Sabres tied it in the second. Strong performances were turned in by Ryan Higgins, Trevor Shaw, Nick Noe, Mark Christy, Austin Maciok, Tyler Casselman, Ethan Sokolowski, Kyle Flierl, Harrison Bennett, Jeremy Walsh and Elliot Smith. Goalie Alec Jackson was solid.

The team is coached by Daryle Shaw, Mark Sokolowski and Matt Higgins.

Stars 3, Rangers 2

The Amherst Pee Wee Stars came back from a two-goal deficit in the second period to defeat the Rangers, 3-2, on March 13.

Nick Noe scored the game-winner with 20 seconds remaining in regulation. It was his second of the game. Austin Maciok scored the equalizer.

Inspired play by Ryan Rego, Ryan Higgins and Trevor Shaw, coupled with strong play by the whole team, contributed to the win. Goalie Alec Jackson stood stall in the third.

The top-seeded Rangers played hard. The Stars will advance to play the Blue Sabres in the finals on Super Sunday.
