Robert P. Hurst, 77, of Amherst, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in Bozeman, Mont.

He graduated from Galatand Valley County College and Montana State University. He earned his doctorate from the University of Texas in chemical physics. He was a tenured professor in physics at the University at Buffalo.
Mr. Hurst was a member of the Boy Scouts for more than 30 years, serving as Cub leader, Scoutmaster and leader trainer. He was a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and received his wood badge. He was also a member of North Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years and served on all major boards
Mr. Hurst is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Kathleen Spring; sons, Fred, Karl, Bill and Shawn; brothers, John and David; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 19, at North Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Forest Road.
