Affectionately known as "Del," Idella Vogelsang celebrated her 105th birthday on March 9 at Weinberg Campus.
As the eldest resident of Weinberg's Rosa Coplon Living Center, Vogelsang was joined by staff, fellow residents and family members on March 10 at her milestone birthday party.
Born in Canada on March 9, 1903, Vogelsang attended school in Stratford. While in her teens, she worked in a knitting mill. Years later, she met Arthur Vogelsang, a young American. They fell in love, married and moved to the States. She became an American citizen in 1943. They raised their one daughter, Shirley, in Kenmore.
Vogelsang was a devoted homemaker who loved to share her cooking with her family and friends. She enjoyed practicing her green thumb while gardening and also enjoyed reading.
She was widowed in 1970. In 2002, Vogelsang moved to Dosberg Manor Adult Home of Weinberg Campus after sustaining a series of falls. She spent three years there and then moved to its skilled nursing facility, Rosa Coplon Living Center, for a higher level of care.
Activities Director Jan Treinin shared that Vogelsang enjoys socializing with fellow residents.
"Idella loves to listen to music, watch the Animal Planet station and receive visits," Treinin said. "She also enjoys exercising with music, held on Wednesday mornings."
