Screeching soprano
She thought she was God's gift to opera - but she was wrong! The joyful Florence Foster Jenkins had a passion for singing, but a voice of disastrous proportions, which left audiences crying with laughter. Spinning from her bizarre recording sessions, unbelievable recitals and an ultimate triumph at New York's Carnegie Hall - this is a true, heart-warming story about a group of eccentric friends who lived their dreams. The Kavinoky Theatre continues with Peter Quilter's hilarious comedy, "Glorious!" through March 30. The production features Mary Kate O'Connell as Florence Foster Jenkins and is directed by Buffalo United Artists' founder and Artistic Director Javier Bustillos. "Glorious!" also features Joseph Demerly, Eileen Dugan, Anne Gayley, Victoria Perez and Donn Youngstrom. Legendary Buffalo news anchor Irv Weinstein has lent his talents as the radio announcer. The Carnegie Hall inspired set design is by David King, costumes by Tessa Lew, lighting by Brian Cavanagh, sound by Tom Makar, and musical direction by Nathan Matthews. Performances are 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 4 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays (no performance on Easter Sunday) through Sunday, March 30 at the Kavinoky Theatre at D'Youville Col lege. Ticket prices are $32/regular and $28/seniors 65 and older. Discounts are available to groups and students and are available by calling 829-7668.
