Williamsville North hockey junior Nick Fronczak was named an all-New York State Division I Second Team all-star.

Williamsville East graduate Zach Anderson threw five innings and struck out six batters to pick up the win on the mound in the University at Buffalo baseball team's 12-7 win over New York Tech last Friday in the Lamar Classic in Beaumont, Texas.

Amherst Central graduate Mike Pizzuto had a goal and four assists to help the Geneseo State College's men's lacrosse team to a 15-6 win at Utica College on Wednesday. Geneseo is ranked 17th in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll.

Joe Kling, a Getzville native and St. Joseph Collegiate Institute graduate, was named Geneseo State College's student athlete of the week for Feb. 18-24.

Kling, a senior biology major, led the Knights to a 72-62 upset of Brockport on Saturday by scoring 19 points on 5-9 from the field, 1-2 from the arc and 8-8 from the line with five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Williamsville North graduate and Williamsville resident Cheryl Kindzia recently closed out her collegiate career with her 14th double-double of the season, 18 points and 13 rebounds, as the Fredonia State College women's basketball team beat Morrisville State, 69-36. Kindzia leaves the program as its all-time leading scorer (1,370 points) and rebounder (852 rebounds).

Amherst resident and Fredonia State College student Nicole C. Smith won the 400-meters in 61.14 at the State University of New York Athletic Conference championships on Feb. 23. She entered the meet as the No. 8 seed.

Tommy Shantler, 8, of Williamsville and a member of the Holiday Valley Ski Race Team placed first in the JV division of the United States Ski Association sanctioned slalom ski race held at the Buffalo Ski Club on Feb. 17.

Shantler has five first place finishes in as many starts in the Niagara Frontier Ski Council ski race series.

Shantler was also recognized as the Niagara Frontier Ski Council's top JV male skier of the year.

Eric Schafer, 8, of Amherst and a member of the Holiday Valley Ski Race Team, placed eighth in the JV division of the United States Ski Association sanctioned slalom ski race held at the Buffalo Ski Club on Feb. 17.

Meredith Parenti, 11, of Williamsville and a member of the Holiday Valley Ski Race Team placed seventh in the JV division of the United States Ski Association sanctioned slalom ski race held at the Buffalo Ski Club on Feb. 17.

The Hilbert College athletic department recently announced the dates for its 2008 boys' and girls' summer basketball camps.

All sessions will run Sunday through Thursday and campers will have the option of staying overnight (resident camper) or commuting (day camper).

The girls' camps will be held from June 29-July 3 and from July 13-17, while the boys camps run from July 6-10 and July 20-24.
