Development girls league holds pond tourney

The Amherst Girls Hockey Development program put on the second annual 3-on-3 Pond Hockey Tournament the weekend of March 1-2 at the Amherst Pepsi Center.

Fifty-five girls attended, ages 10 to 16. The tournament hosted four divisions, with each team playing three games in the first round. The girls were then divided into divisions, depending on the outcome of the first round.

After the second round, teams three versus four played, followed by one versus two for the championship of the division.

The winners of Division 1 and the champions were Juliet Holme (captain), Carolyn Hopkins and Abby Posner.

The winners of Division 2 were Amanda Burns (captain), Samantha Wald, Ann Quattro and Jessica Higgins.

The winners of Division 3 were Erica Caggiano (captain), Miranda Podlas, Jennifer Sauter and Katherine Wahlgren.

The winners of Division 4 were Elena Hingston (captain), Sarah O'Brien, Becca Searns and Allison Wesolowski.

All of the girls are house league players.

Coaches of the Amherst Girls Hockey Development teams were Union College's Mike Pautler, Dick Mugel and Holly Hubert; Cornell's Rick Hopkins, Mark Marsack and Debra Patrick; St. Lawrence's Leonard Higgins, Craig Colling and Pat Ruggiero; and Clarkson coach Mike Caggiano.
