LSU takes home seventh-eighth grade girls championship

LSU beat Kentucky, 28-24, on Saturday at Clearfield to win the Amherst Youth Basketball seventh-eighth grade girls championship. LSU beat Kentucky, 28-24, on Saturday at Clearfield to win the Amherst Youth Basketball seventh eighth grade girls championship.

LSU led, 12-7, at halftime, but Kentucky went ahead, 20-16, after the third quarter.

The fourth quarter ended tied at 24-24.

In overtime, Lisa Harb (11 points), under much pressure, found an open Haley Stogsdill (five points) under the basket for a layup.

Kentucky pressured and sent Harb to the foul line where she made two free throws.

Emily Ludwig (four), Sabrina Lipowski, Erin Lynch and Mina Divan (two each) and Shannon Doherty and Shelby Donhauser (one each) also scored for LSU.

Semifinals

LSU 14, Kentucky 6

LSU's defense led by Erin Lynch, Mina Divan and Bridget Tichenor held Kentucky's offense to a total of six points, all scored by Catherine Dutweiler.

Lisa Harb (seven points), Haley Stogsdill (four), Emily Ludwig (two) and Sabrina Lipowski (one) also tallied for LSU.

Second round

LSU 25, Florida 13

Sabrina Lipowski led a balanced LSU attack with eight points. Shelby Donhauser (six), Lisa Harb (five), Emily Ludwig (four) and Haley Stogsdill (two) also scored for LSU.

First round

LSU 24, Vanderbilt 22

The first round of the playoffs pitted LSU against a much underrated Vanderbilt.

A surprised LSU found themselves down by two in the fourth quarter. It took all of the 10 points scored in the last quarter to win.

Emily Ludwig led with 12 points. Lisa Harb added nine, Sabrina Lipowski chipped in two and Haley Stogsdill tossed in one.

LSU started the playoffs as the first-seed with a season-ending record of 11-3-2.
