Rois, Berus swim well for RIT Steve Rois and Steve Berus fared well for the Rochester Institute of Technology's men's swimming and diving team at the 2008 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships held at Nottingham High School. Rois, an Amherst Central High graduate and Amherst resident, took fourth out of 50 swimmers in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:43.89. The time earned him All-Empire 8 second team honors. On Friday, he finished third in the 200 free in 1:43.63. Rois placed fourth in the 1,650-yard free on Saturday in 16:50. Rois also swam a leg in the 400 free relay that took sixth in 3:11.74 and the 400 medley relay that broke an 18-year school record in 3:35.04. Steve Berus, a Williamsville North graduate and Amherst resident, also swam on the 400 medley relay. Berus also was fifth in the 200 breast in 2:13.12. He was second among all Empire 8 swimmers and named to the All-Empire 8 second team. He recorded a time of 2:12.50 in preliminaries. Brian Duffy, a Clarence High graduate and Clarence resident, was a member of the school's 400 free relay and also the 200 medley relay that finished fourth in 1:37.71. The 200 medley relay team earned All-Empire 8 second team honors. |
