Play at Temple Beth Am shares story of courage

The play "Life in a Jar," presented by the Life in a Jar Foundation from Kansas City, will be shown at Temple Beth Am this month.

The play concerns the life of Irena Sendler, a Polish-Catholic woman who assisted in the smuggling of 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust. The children were placed with families and at convents and orphanages.

Sendler kept track of their identities by writing the names of the children, their parents or grandparents, and foster parents on pieces of paper that she put in glass jars and buried in a garden.

Today, Sendler is 97 years old and was recently nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

The performance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30 at Temple Beth Am, 4660 Sheridan Drive, Williamsville.

For tickets, call the Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo, located in Cheektowaga, at 634-9535. A dessert reception will follow.
