Panthers dominate, lose Division II state hockey semifinal

      The Sweet Home Federation hockey team outshot and outhit its Division II New York State semifinal opponent but still saw its season come to a premature end. The Panthers outshot Thousand Islands of Section X, 36-15, but lost 4-3 on Saturday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

      LSU beat Kentucky, 28-24, on Saturday at Clearfield to win the Amherst Youth Basketball seventh eighth grade girls championship. LSU led, 12-7, at halftime, but Kentucky went ahead, 20-16, after the third quarter. The fourth quarter ended tied at 24-24.

Micron Gray Sabres shut out Black
      The first round of the Micron playoffs continued with a game on March 1 between the Gray Sabres and the Black Sabres. Alec Cicero had two goals and one assist and Liam Wojciechowski earned his second straight shutout to lead the Gray Sabres to a 5-0 win.

      The Amherst Girls Hockey Development program put on the second annual 3-on-3 Pond Hockey Tournament the weekend of March 1-2 at the Amherst Pepsi Center. Fifty-five girls attended, ages 10 to 16. The tournament hosted four divisions, with each team playing three games in the first round.
