Amherst public libraries offer free tax help

Free tax help for people age 60 and older by IRS-certified volunteers is offered at Amherst public libraries through April 10. People are requested to bring their 2007 tax packets, returns from last year and all other applicable documents, such as W2Ps and 1099s. The tax help will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, at Main Library at Audubon, 350 Audubon Parkway.; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, at Clearfield Branch, 770 Hopkins Rd.; 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, at Eggertsville/Snyder Branch, 4622 Main St.; and 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, at Williamsville Branch, 5571 Main St. For information, visit www.buffalolib.org.

Audubon Library to host monthly book club

Librarian Raya Then will lead the Audubon Library Book Club from 7 to 8 p.m. the first Thursday of every month from now through May at the Audubon Library, 350 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst. Booth space available for bridal fair

Eastern Hills Mall will hold its second annual Beautiful Beginnings Bridal Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 20 at the mall, 4545 Transit Road. The Arthritis Foundation to hold classes

The Arthritis Foundation will hold an exercise program at Slim and Tone, 55 CrossPoint Parkway, Suite 106, Getzville. The class will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 4 through 28. The cost is $24. The foundation also plans a tai chi class adapted for people with arthritis. Tools for caregivers classes set

Classes for those helping older relatives will be held for six weeks from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays starting March 4 at St. Gregory the Great School, 100 St. Gregory Court, Room 802. The cost for the six weeks is $25 and includes a copy of "The Caregiver Helpbook" and is covered in full for members of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of WNY and Independent Health. SOS Friends and Family meets at CFI

The Secular Organizations for Sobriety Friends and Family support group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 12 at the Center for Inquiry, 1310 Sweet Home Road, Amherst. SOS, or Save Our Selves, meets weekly to support and maintain sobriety for those uncomfortable with the spiritual nature of traditional 12-step programs. Architecture lecture set by GBBCA

A PowerPoint presentation, "Name That Buffalo Building Part II," will be given by architectural historian Chuck LaChuisa, who will discuss the history and the architectural highlights of each building. St. Benedict Church to hold discussion

St. Benedict Church will present the Rev. Peter Karalus, pastor of Epiphany Parish in North Collins, who will discuss, "What Being Catholic Means to Me." Lecture to focus on spintronics

Jewish Community Center to hold series

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo Inc. will hold a series of conversations with local speakers from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Jewish Community Center's Benderson Building, 2640 North Forest Road, Getzville. The free series will allow people to learn about unfamiliar aspects of the area. On March 6, Dick Laub of the Buffalo Museum of Science will present "Secret Stone." Church to host World Day of Prayer

Williamsville United Methodist Church, 5681 Main St, Williamsville, near Mill St., is hosting the World Day of Prayer at 7 p.m., March 7. World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of women of many faith traditions who come together annually to observe a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March. Williamsville Historical Society Museum to open

The Village of Williamsville Historical Society Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at the Village Meeting House, 5658 Main St., Williamsville. The museum offers artifacts, maps, genealogy research, models, toys, military and fire department uniforms, business memorabilia, books and other items relating to the history of the village. Introduction to yoga workshop planned

Russian bazaar set at St. Theodore

St. Theodore Russian Orthodox Church will host its annual Russian Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9 at the church, 96 Los Robles St., at Milton, one block south of Main Street, Williamsville.
