Depew Saints Squirts place second in youth hockey tournament

The Depew Saints Squirt Mixed Age Hockey Club took second at the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame Youth Hockey Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio during Presidents' Day weekend. The Depew Saints Squirt Mixed Age Hockey Club took second place at the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame Youth Hockey Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio during Presidents Day Weekend.

The Saints defeated Mount Lebanon, Pa., 2-1, behind goals from Arcadio Alfaro (Depew) and Patrick Stenzel (Elma), and the clutch goaltending of Jerod Penke (Lancaster).

In their next game, Depew defeated North Pittsburgh, Pa., 4-1. Four different Saints - Josh Hendel (Lancaster), Josh Weigel, Nick Myers (Orchard Park), and Megan Reukauf (Lancaster) - registered goals.

The Saints made it to the finals by tying eventual tournament champion Parma, Ohio, 2-2. Nick Maly (Lancaster) and Alfaro scored the goals for Depew while Alex Zuchlewski (Clarence) added two assists.

In the championship game, the Saints outshot Parma, 19-11, and received goals by Myers and Collin Willis (East Amherst) but lost 3-2.

The second place finish was the Saints highest finish in tournament play this season.
