Bisons U10 girls drop Kitchener in first round of playoffs

The Buffalo Bisons' girls 10U team lost in the finals of the Mississauga Christmas Tournament, 6-5, in double overtime to North Halton. The Buffalo Bisons' girls U10 team beat Kitchener, Ont., 8-2, and 1-0, in a best-of-three series to advance to the second round of the playoffs in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League.

Bisons 8, Kitchener 2 The Bisons scored twice in the first six minutes and Kitchener tied the game before the first period ended.

The Bisons went ahead for good in the beginning of the second and scored six unanswered goals.

Abby Cleary led with four goals and two assists. Rachel DePerio and Michelle Robillard (goal, two assists each) of Amherst, Jillian Koop (goal, assist), Bridgette Prentiss and Grace Page (two assists each), Coaty Ostendorf (goal) and Amherst's Abby Welch and Claire Werynski (assist each) also contributed.

Bisons 1, Kitchener 0

Bridgette Prentiss netted the lone goal unassisted on a nice wraparound play with four minutes left in the third. Amber Du- Bill of Clarence recorded her 11th shutout of the year.

Next up is a best-of-three series with a team from Niagara Falls, Ont. starting on Wednesday.

Christmas Tournament

The Bisons lost in the finals of the Mississauga Christmas Tournament, 6-5, in double overtime to North Halton. The team won all three preliminary round games.

The Bisons have compiled an overall record of 27-7. They are second in the league with a 19-5 record.

The Bisons' 10U team will be holding tryouts for the next travel season from 7 to 7:50 p.m. on March 10-11 at Lafayette Rink, 152 Tacoma Ave., Buffalo.
