Amherst 'AAA' Pee Wee Minor wins tournament

The Amherst "AAA" Pee Wee Minor hockey team beat the Blue Jackets, 4-1, to win the Silver Skates Tournament in Detroit, Mich. Members of the team, pictured from left, are: first row - Connor Schutte, Max Kreuz, Zach Stamates, Tyler Larwood, Eric Lipa, Ben Sharf; middle row - Mike Keenehan, Patrick Haynes, Jake Smith, Steven Skinner, AJ Mancuso, Dennis Gilbert, Eric Benshadle, John Schmitt, Adam Dentico; third row - team manager Dave Schutte and head coach Dan Mancuso.
The "AAA" Pee Wee Minor Team returned home from The Silver Skates Tournament in Detroit, Mich. with the championship trophy.

Amherst beat the Blue Jackets, 4-1, in the finals. Connor Schutte kept his scoring streak going with two beautiful goals fed from Eric Benshadle and Eric Lipa. Jake Smith had a goal set up from Steven Skinner and Tyler Larwood. Larwood scored again, assisted by Dennis Gilbert and Max Kreuz.

In the semifinals, Amherst goalie Adam Dentico shut the door on the Cyclones with a 4-0 win. Dentico played outstanding throughout the tournament, making one great save after another.

Benshadle scored late in the second period from a nice pass from Lipa. Gilbert fired one past the Cyclone goalie set up by Larwood. Kreuz got the rebound from Smith and Benshadle. Lipa got goal number four with a beautiful goal set up by Schutte and Mike Keenehan.

In their second game, Amherst beat the Racers, 6-2. Schutte opened the scoring early, assisted by Benshadle and Lipa.

Benshadle got two goals assisted by Gilbert and Schutte and Zach Stamates. Larwood had a goal assisted by Keenehan. Kreuz had one assist by Larwood and Sharf. Schutte finished up for Amherst this time from a great pass from Skinner.

Amherst's first game against the Blue Jackets ended in a 5-4 win. Larwood got Amherst on the board late in the first period with a beautiful goal assisted by Ben Sharf and Smith. Schutte had the second goal assisted by Gilbert and Smith.

Benshadle scored next off a nice feed from Lipa. Larwood tied it up off the rebound from Kreuz from a hard shot from the point from Gilbert. Schutte went top shelf for the game winner from Lipa and Benshadle.
