Liam Callahan of Amherst was chosen to play on the 1994 Region 1 Olympic Development team when they travel to Italy March 15-25.

Callahan will train and play in the Trofeo Daniel Pecci Tournament in Bellaria, Italy and compete against teams from FC Juventis, Parma, Lazio and Rimini.

The team is made up of the top 18 players from 12 East Coast states in the Region 1 area.

Callahan plays with Buffalo United Soccer Club and New York State West-ODP. He is an eighth-grader at St. Christopher's School.

Williamsville East graduate and Williamsville native Dave Convertini, a sophomore at St. John Fisher College, started in three games for the school's baseball team and batted .267, while singling in the game-winning run in a 9-8 win over John Carroll University.

Amherst Central graduate Emily Warren, a sophomore at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., and a member of the Lakers field hockey team, has been named to the ZAG/NFHCA Div II National Academic squad for the second straight year.

The program recognizes athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 through the first semester of the 2007-2008 academic year.

Warrren's cumulative GPA of 3.66 earned her this recognition.

Sweet Home graduate Steven Roberts was part of the Erie Community College men's basketball team that advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament after a 55-53 win over Monroe Community College Sunday afternoon at Jamestown Community College in the Region III finals. ECC won the Region III title for the first time since 2004. The Kats will travel to Danville, Ill. for the NJCAA Tournament from March 18 to 22.

The site lists street boundaries for potential players. Mathewson McCarthy's home facility is located behind Erie Community College's North Campus, 6205 Main St., Williamsville. The league offers house league baseball and tournament teams.
