Candidate packets available at district offices Petition packets for qualified candidates seeking election to the Williamsville Board of Education are now available. Candidates must obtain at least 66 valid signatures, which represents 2 percent of last year's total vote count. Petitions are due in the District Office, 105 Casey Road, by 5 p.m. Monday, April 21. Three seats are up for election on the nine-member School Board, with the annual vote slated for Tuesday, May 20 at Williamsville North High School, 1595 Hopkins Road. The three highest vote recipients will be elected to serve three-year terms, beginning in July. Candidate packets are available at the District Office during regular business hours. Information and petition forms are also available on the district Web site at www.williamsvil lek12.org. For more information, contact the district clerk, Mitzie Serafin at 626-8092. The incumbents whose terms will expire are Francina Spoth, Ronald Shubert and Stephen Munschauer. All three have announced their intent to seek re-election. Amherst Central Two seats are available on the Amherst School Board as the current members have both decided to not seek re-election. Robert C. Wetter and Patricia A. Yanity have stated they will not run. Anyone interested in running for a board seat can contact the district clerk, Sharon Krol, at 362-3051 for information or to have a candidate packet mailed to them. Packets can also be picked up at the District Office, 55 Kings Highway. Petitions are due on Monday, April 21. The district's Web site is, www. amherstschools. org. The Board of Education is scheduled to adopt the budget at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 during its regular meeting. A public forum will be held during the May 6 meeting. All meetings are held in the board room, 55 Kings Highway. The district vote on the budget is from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 at Amherst High School, 4301 Main St. Sweet Home In the Sweet Home Central School District, Scott M. Johnson will be seeking re-election to the Board of Education. His seat is the only one of the seven on this year's ballot. The deadline to submit petitions is 5 p.m. Friday, April 18. The annual district budget hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 in the Vergils Community Center in the high school, 1901 Sweet Home Road, Amherst. The meet-the-candidates presentation will follow the hearing. Voting will take place from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 also in the Vergils Community Center. The Board of Education will host a board/parent forum from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the high school library. The purpose of the forum is to provide parents with means to communicate directly with the board. The format will be informal. Sweet Home parents who would like to attend the forum should call 250-1402 by Friday, March 7. |
